A not-for-profit industry body serving jewellers across South IndiaGrievance helpline: 1800 000 4657 (Mon–Sat, 10am–6pm)

Established for the trade, governed by the trade

The voice of jewellers in and from the South.

The Indian Gold and Jewel Council exists for one reason: to stand behind the jeweller when compliance, credit, karigars or a bad-faith buyer turns against them — and to hold digital gold to a standard the industry can defend.

Every complaint acknowledged within 48 hours. Every outcome recorded in writing.

Our mission

To make honest jewellery trade the easiest trade to run in India — through direct redressal, published standards and one accountable voice before every regulator.

  • Member-governed, one member one vote.
  • Published code of conduct, enforced with real consequences.
  • Accounts and case outcomes disclosed to members every quarter.

Pain points we actually work on

We start where the jeweller's day gets hard.

These are the eight issues members bring to us most often. Each one has a named desk, a documented process and a chapter officer accountable for it.

Hallmarking & HUID load

Bulk HUID reconciliation, AHC turnaround escalation and template-based inventory records that survive an inspection.

GST & e-invoice disputes

Standard positions on job-work, old-gold exchange and e-invoicing, plus representation drafting for notices and audits.

Gold loan & working capital

Council-negotiated lender panels so small and mid-size jewellers get metal loans and OD limits without collateral gouging.

Karigar & labour shortage

Verified karigar registry, fair-wage norms and skilling tie-ups so workshops are not held hostage by seasonal churn.

Transit, theft & insurance

Group insurance rates, approved carrier lists and a rapid claim-support desk when a consignment or showroom is hit.

Unfair digital gold offers

Platforms selling unbacked or opaque digital gold are put through the Council's SRO standards or publicly listed as non-compliant.

Cheque & credit defaults

A shared default-alert network among members and structured mediation before anyone reaches a courtroom.

BIS & regulatory action

On-ground support during BIS, GST or weights-and-measures inspections, with escalation to the right authority.

Direct redressal

A complaint reaches a decision-maker, not a queue.

No membership tier buys faster treatment. The same four stages, the same published timelines, for every case.

  1. 01

    File in minutes

A member, karigar or consumer files by helpline, email or chapter office. No lawyer, no fee, no format required.

    Day 0

  2. 02

    Triage & acknowledgement

The redressal desk verifies the parties, assigns a case number and names the officer handling it.

    Within 48 hours

  3. 03

    Mediation

Both sides are heard by a chapter mediation panel. Settlement terms are recorded and signed.

    Day 3–21

  4. 04

    Resolution or escalation

Closed with a written outcome, or escalated to BIS, GST, consumer forum or police with the Council's file attached.

    Day 30

Digital Gold Wing

One self-regulatory standard for every gram of digital gold sold in India.

Digital gold sits outside a single statutory regulator today. The Council's Digital Gold Wing closes that gap with a binding SRO code covering jewellers, fintech platforms, wallets and aggregators — 1:1 physical backing, audited vaults, insured custody and honest redemption terms.

Read the SRO mandate
  • 1:1 allocated backing

Every gram sold is a gram vaulted, reconciled daily.

  • Independent vault audit

Quarterly attestation by an empanelled auditor, published.

  • Insured custody

Full-value insurance covering theft, transit and vault risk.

  • Clean redemption

Physical delivery and buyback terms disclosed before purchase.

Membership

Four ways to belong, one standard of conduct.

Membership is open to the whole chain — from a single-counter family shop to a national digital gold platform. Every member signs the same code.

Questions

Straight answers.

Who can join the Council?
Retail jewellers, wholesalers, bullion dealers, manufacturers, karigar units and digital gold platforms operating in or sourcing from South India.
Does the Council charge for grievance redressal?
No. Redressal is included in membership, and consumer complaints against a member are always free to file.
Is the Digital Gold SRO mandatory?
It is binding on every member that sells, stores or distributes digital gold. Non-member platforms are invited to accredit voluntarily; their status is published either way.
Does IGJC replace BIS or GST obligations?
No. Council standards sit above the statutory floor. Members must meet the law first, then the Council's code.
